Lawrence Hong, one of the victims of the mass stabbing at a home in the city's northwest last week, was laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon.
Family and friends gathered at 1:30 p.m. at the Centre Street Church to remember the young man.
Hong was stabbed to death on April 15, 2014, at a home in Brentwood along with four others; Zackariah Rathwell, Josh Hunter, Jordan Segura, and Kaiti Perras.
His brother Miles delivered the eulogy saying, "It means so much that we are not alone in our grief and the amount of support that has come for Lawrence, like the vigil that was held at the Q Centre at the Univeristy of Calgary."
Hong is being remembered as someone who always stood up for the so-called ‘outcasts’ on campus.
"Lawrence was an amazing student, he was really invested in the material, tirelessly gaining as much knowledge as possible and he pushed himself really hard," said family friend, David Cooper. "He taught me that it's important to keep fighting in a very loving way, to do great things for others and that you're never too busy to give to others."
Miles Hong says it hurts to think about the fact that Lawrence is gone but he will remember his brother for being a caring, loving and passionate person.
The other victims were buried earlier this week.
Pastor Gordon Dirks at the Centre Street Church said that all the victims lived beautiful lives.
"Lives of integrity, lives of fun, lives of faithful friendships. They all had wonderful goals for the future. Perhaps the best way we as a community can honour them is to live out those values in the future."
