Calgarians continue to drop by the scene of Tuesday’s multiple murders to pay their respects and leave behind flowers and mementos to remember the victims.
Josh Hunter, Lawrence Hong, Kaiti Perras, Zackariah Rathwell and Jordan Segura were all stabbed to death at a party at a home in the community of Brentwood on Tuesday.
Matthew de Grood is charged with five counts of first-degree murder in connection to their deaths.
Sherry and Jill Rogers are family friends with the Perras family and brought a pair of ballet point shoes to the make-shift memorial at the scene to honour Kaiti.
The inscription on the shoes reads "There are secrets to happiness and dancing was one of them."
“She was amazing, great girl. She was very reserved but such a kind heart,” said Jill who used to dance with Kaiti.
“I’ve been crying straight for three days. I can’t seem to, I just can’t believe it,” said Sherry.
Many more stopped by after Good Friday services to quietly reflect.
“We have sons of our own and we just are remembering the potential and the lives of these young people whose lives were taken so soon,” said Joy. “It's like a shroud is over the city and our hearts just break for these people, they really do.”
Memorial services have been announced for three of the victims and services for the other two are expected to be announced in the coming days.
