Calgary Police are investigating an altercation at a northeast pub that left one man dead Thursday morning.

Police say they were called to disturbance and assault complaints at a strip mall on Whitefield Drive and 36 Street NE just after 1:30 am.

The disturbance in the parking lot had broken up when police arrived but three persons were found with varying states of injury from minor to serious.

Officials say two of the three persons were rushed to hospital but one man, believed to be in his mid twenties died soon after arrival at Foothills Hospital.

Investigators are having trouble contacting the victim's family.

"At this point there's very little known about this victim. It's believed he's new to Canada. Police are in the process of trying to locate his next of kin, " said Acting Staff Sgt. Patty McCallum.

Police won't say how the man died or if weapons were involved in the dispute.

They're also trying to determine a connection between the three men.

Across the street at a nearby grocery store, officers took two people into custody.

Police are now questioning a number of people who were at the scene as they continue to investigate.

Thursday afternoon police expanded their crime scene to include two nearby churches and a condo complex.

But police say they have no suspects and they don't know the motive for the attack.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
