A Calgary man has been arrested and charged with 77 child pornography related offences that were allegedly committed against 16 victims between the ages of 11 and 16-years-old.

ALERT's Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation unit (ICE) was tipped off by multiple sources, including Cochrane RCMP, Fort McMurray RCMP, Drumheller RCMP, a social networking website, concerned parents, and a 14-year-old victim.

All of the victims are residents of Alberta.

Police say that each complaint was filed separately with different agencies and then forwarded to the ICE unit for further investigation.

Investigators were able to piece together information that led them to one suspect who is alleged to have contacted his victims through various social networking sites.

Daniel Thomas Mackie, age 25, of Calgary, has been charged with 77 offences, including a number of counts of making, possessing, accessing and distributing child pornography, child luring, invitation to sexual touching, extortion, and impersonation.

"The victims in this case did the right thing by reporting the inappropriate online communication to their parents" said Detective Joel Rumancik of the southern ICE unit. "After receiving the information from their children, the parents took that information and filed complaints with the police."

Investigators believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information pertaining to this investigation to contact Detective Joel Rumancik of the southern Alberta ICE unit at 403-428-4911.
