Calgary police are investigating a suspected domestic homicide at a northwest home.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., officers responded to a check on welfare call at a residence on Ranchridge Dr. N.W. Inside the home, CPS members discovered the body of a dead woman.

EMS officials confirm a woman is the victim of the incident. EMS crews were deployed to the home but did not transport a patient from the scene.

According to a witness, CPS members arrived at the home and tackled a person who had been standing in front of the home. The unidentified person was placed in the back of a police vehicle.

Police confirm they have arrested a male and investigators are interviewing the man.

Residents were shocked by the police presence in their neighbourhood.

“It’s a real quiet neighbourhood, nothing really happens here,” said Jessica, a Ranchland resident who did not provide her surname. “I remember them (the residents of the home) from trick-or-treating and that kind of thing but they never really talked to anyone, they were really unassuming.”

The identity of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been notified and an autopsy has been performed.
