RCMP is still trying to positively identify a man who was found dead along the side of a road on Friday.

CTV News has learned from friends that the deceased man is Orphee Landa.

Police have not confirmed his identity.

RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male in the ditch along 242 Ave. just west of 80th St. in the MD of Foothills around 8:25 a.m. Friday.

The man was found by someone who was driving by.

Friends of the man say, Landa left his Calgary home at about 2:00 a.m. on Friday and that was the last time anyone heard from him.

Friends say Landa was a kind person and they can't understand why anyone would want to harm him.

"He never meant harm to anybody, he was a kind and caring person, always willing to help. Going out of his way to hear people's problems and trying to offer his knowledge and experience in life," said Joao Miranda.

Police want to speak to anyone who lives in the area or who may have noticed anything suspicious.

"We did get some calls in. Three or four people called in and felt they knew who it was," said RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb, "We're working on that information, but a positive ID will only come when a medical examiner gives us that information."

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Investigators are asking anyone who has information regarding the man's death to contact the Okotoks RCMP at (403) 938-4202 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
