Family and friends of a known gang member said good-bye Saturday, as police kept a close eye on the funeral.
Roger Chin was shot to death July 5, 2008.
Police say they stopped several vehicles, and conducted several searches, but made no arrests and report no problems.
Mourners arrived at the Chapel of the Bells Funeral Home on Centre Street North to say good-bye to Chin, one of Calgary's most notorious gang members.
They were greeted by police on the ground, and in the air.
Police kept a watchful eye over the funeral home, and surrounding neighborhood, to ensure the safety of the public and mourners.
Detective Gord Eiriksson says, "Everything went fine. We had our measured police response at the funeral home today and the funeral unfolded without incident."
Chin was gunned down a few weeks ago as he drove along Centre Street.
The 23-year old was found dead behind the wheel of his vehicle.
Chin had a lengthy criminal record.
Last February he was the target of gunmen outside a Domo Gas Bar.
Homicide detectives are still trying to close the file and find out who pulled the trigger.
Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta says as is the case with many shootings involving gang members, it's a tough investigation.
"Obviously our challenge is to get information from people in the community. We know that there are people out there who know exactly what happened, but we need to hear from those people."
Detective Eiriksson says even though there hasn't been any violence at the funerals of gang members in the past, they hope for the best, and plan for the worst.
"We always attend the funerals and make sure that, in view of public safety, that we have police on standby in case anything should happen. We have had events where gang members have come to funerals with loaded hand guns."
Police won't reveal the details of their measured response other than to say it was well thought out, well planned and well executed.
Chin's brother Roland wasn't allowed to attend the service.
He's also a known gang member, serving time in Bowden for drug and weapons offences.
