A Calgary man who was accused of killing his teenage stepdaughter has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Bradley Wade Rietze was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his 17-year-old stepdaughter Brittney McInnes.

McInnes' body was found underneath a mattress in her Canyon Meadows home in January 2010, a day after she was reported missing to police.

Rietze had known Brittney for 13 years and she lived in the home with him, her mother and two siblings.

Jury selection for the trial was completed on Friday and the trial was expected to begin on Monday with opening statements.

Rietze changed his plea to guilty on Monday afternoon and the judge dismissed the jury.

Rietze will be back in court on Wednesday for sentencing.

A scholarship fund in her memory was established in November 2010.
