A man in his seventies has been hospitalized following an RV fire on a rural property east of Calgary.

EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux says EMS, RCMP and members of the Langdon fire department responded to reports of a recreational vehicle fire at a location on Range Road 283, south of Highway 560 (extension of Glenmore Trail) shortly after noon.

A paramedic crew encountered an RV fully engulfed in flames and located an injured man who had been inside the trailer at the time the fire ignited. The man had escaped from the vehicle under his own power but suffered burns to his upper body and significant burns to his airway.

EMS transported the man to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious condition.

The RV was decimated by the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No other injuries have been reported.
