Two services will be held on Friday in Calgary to remember the life of a man who was stabbed to death in the northeast on Wednesday night.
Maqsood Ahmed and one of his employees had emptied the tills from his grocery and money transfer business to take them home to deposit at the bank in the morning.
The pair had locked up and was on their way from the store when they were attacked by a pair of suspects.
Both were pepper sprayed, but Ahmed was stabbed when he fought to keep his money from being stolen.
The suspects fled the scene.
Emergency services arrived and rushed Ahmed to hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police are investigating and are looking for two men in connection with the robbery and murder.
“I believe that this was a real reprehensible crime and we need people to come forward and help us with this investigation,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service.
The first suspect is described as:
- Black male
- Believed to be in his twenties
- Approximately 178 cm (5'10") tall
- Having a lean muscular build
- Long hair
- Wearing dark clothing and white shoes
The second suspect is described as
- Black male
- Believed to be in his twenties
- Approximately 183 cm (6') tall
- Having a medium to heavy build
- Short hair
- Wearing a light coloured hoodie under a dark three quarter length leather jacket
Police believe the suspects were driving a dark coloured Toyota Solora. The two-door car is believed to be an older model, possibly from 1999-2003.
"We will be going through all the video and will be determining whether anything is applicable to be released sometime in the future," said Chisholm.
Ahmed’s death is Calgary’s 28th homicide of 2014.
Family and friends will be attending a funeral service at the Akram Jumma Centre in northeast Calgary at 1:30 p.m.
Regular prayers will be held at the Genesis Centre at 1:30 p.m., during which special prayers will be made for Ahmed.
