A mudslide closed the Trans-Canada Highway for most of Tuesday.

It happened at 10:30 a.m. about 20 kilometres east of Rogers Pass.

Heavy rain in the area is being blamed for causing mud, trees, rock, and other debris to slide down the mountain onto the highway.

Officials say no vehicles, or people, were caught in the slide.

Geo-technicians have been called in to assess the stability of the slide area. At this point it looks like the highway will reopen by 5 p.m.
