Police continue to investigate a shooting early Wednesday morning that rattled the residents of a quiet southwest Calgary neighbourhood.

The call came in at about 6:00 a.m. from a woman who lives in the 0-100 block of Springbank Mews S.W.

She told police that she'd heard several shots and said her home had been damaged.

The home was hit several times and there was damage to the siding, a second floor window and the front door.

Police say the home involved in the incident and the residents who live there are not known to them.

“At this point investigators are canvassing the neighbourhood for information, any witness accounts, any CCTV, things like that. We don’t believe that the residents of this dwelling were the intended targets at all and it leaves us still in the infancy stages of the investigation and these are always difficult when police are tasked with putting together all the pieces of an investigation from start to finish with little information at the onset,” said CPS Inspector Don Coleman.

The homeowner spoke to CTV and sait they were surprised by the incident.

"I had look around the house and saw there was nothing wrong, so I opened up the door and saw that it'd been shot at, so we went back inside the house and that's when I noticed the windows in the house had been shot at," said homeowner Andrew Li.

Li called 911 immediately afterward and then he and his wife hid in their room until police arrived.

He says the incident has really frightened them. "We're still pretty scared. We talked to some of our neighbours and everybody's feeling the same way. We don't feel too safe now."

Li said he hopes that the incident was a case of mistaken identity. "They said they might have some leads and, hopefully they find out who did this."

He says that his family likely won't be staying at the home for a few days so that the door and windows can be repaired. "We'll take some time as well."

CTV spoke to another witness who said he also heard the shots. "It sounded like someone was slamming one of the recycle bins, you know. Three or four, for sure."

The man says it is concerning to see this type of thing happen so close to home. "Absolutely. My kids and I are directly across the street. It's definiitely not something you want to see in your neighbourhood."

Another resident said that he heard a car speed away from the scene but didn't see the vehicle to be able to give police an accurate description.

Officers with the Guns and Gangs Unit are leading the investigation and are canvassing the area for information in the shooting.

No one was injured in the shooting and investigators are still looking for suspects.

They are hoping that members of the public will come forward with information on suspects, or possibly a suspect vehicle.

“Anybody who has CCTV cameras is encouraged to contact police and let us know because you never know what somebody’s going to have in their own personal CCTV video that’s going to maybe be a piece that really moves a file ahead,” said Coleman.
