CTV News sources have confirmed that the man who was stabbed outside a grocery store in the Beltline on Tuesday afternoon is a convicted drug dealer and a gang leader.
35-year-old Nicholas Chan was stabbed multiple times outside the Community Natural Foods store on 10 Ave. S.W. on Tuesday afternoon.
He managed to drive away from his attackers, but was forced to stop a few blocks away due to the severity of his injuries. An older woman was a passenger in Chan's car when he was attacked.
Chan is in hospital in critical condition.
Chan was convicted of dealing in heroin in 2004 and in 2011 was charged after police found a gun in his car, but those charges were later dropped.
Police say he was stabbed by two men who targeted him.
The first suspect is described as:
- An Asian male
- Between 25 and 35-years-old
- Approximately 5’10” – 6’ tall
- Weighing between 200 and 225 lbs
- Having an athletic build
- At the time of the attack, the suspect was wearing a grey sweatshirt and black pants.
The second suspect is described as:
- Having dark skin
- Between 25 and 35-years-old
- Approximately 5’7” – 5’10” tall
- Having an average build
A red Honda Odyssey with black steel rims and a Calgary Stampeders logo in the rear window was in the area at the time of the stabbing.
