Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a crash north of Sundre that killed two people and sent another two to hospital with serious injuries on the weekend.

Emergency crews were called to the single vehicle crash on Highway 22, near Township road 340, at about 10:00 p.m. Sunday.

Crews found a heavily damaged pickup truck that appeared to have left the road and rolled with four people inside.

Two males, who were passengers in the rear of the vehicle, were deceased on scene and EMS officials say resuscitation was not attempted.

Police say a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with serious injuries.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, was trapped in the vehicle and EMS provided advanced life support on scene. She was airlifted to the Foothills Medical Centre by STARS in critical, life threatening condition.

Both women are now in stable condition.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision and the investigation is ongoing.

The names of those involved are not being released as next of kin notifications are still pending.
