An injured woman has passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre after being struck by a tractor unit in the parking lot of a northwest mall.

According to police, emergency crews were called to a location outside the Safeway in North Hill Centre, in the 1400 block of 16 Ave NW, shortly before 8:00 p.m. following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Crews located a severely injured woman trapped under the front of the truck, which was not pulling a load, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered. 

The 45-year-oldt woman was transported by ambulance to hospital after suffering life threatening soft tissue and internal injuries. Police confirm the woman passed away in hospital shortly after 8:30 p.m..

The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. Police are reviewing the recordings of the mall’s surveillance cameras.

Investigators are interviewing several people who witnessed the incident.
