The Calgary Zoo is putting its Arctic Shores exhibit on ice.

In 2006, the Zoo announced plans to build a $100-million exhibit that would house polar bears, seals and beluga whales.

In 2007, plans were scaled back as costs ballooned to $200-million.

Now, the Zoo is putting the shelving exhibit because of money issues. Officials say they will build the exhibit when, and if, they can get the funding.

In the meantime, the Zoo is planning to raise between $20-million and $25-million so it can construct its Antarctic Landing exhibit.

This exhibit will feature penguins as well as the educational component that was supposed to be part of the Canadian arctic display.
