Residents in the Springbank area are on alert after a mother grizzly and her cubs were spotted roaming near a park.

Authorities with Alberta Parks are telling residents to keep garbage, pet food and livestock feed stored in secure containers to deter the animals from coming around.

This is the time of year when bears are foraging for food to prepare for the winter.

Officials with the Rocky View School District are aware of the incident and have notified parents.

Wildlife officers also recommending that people in the area carry bear spray while they are outside.

If you happen to encounter a bear, you should back away slowly, keep your eyes on the animal and call conservation officers as soon as you can.
