The Chief Chiniki Restaurant, west of Calgary, was consumed by a massive blaze early on Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out at around 12:45 a.m. and firefighters say it started somewhere in the west side of the building.

The fire spread quickly and there is nothing left of the structure, which was built in the early 1980s.

The Nakoda Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene and crews from Cochrane and Springbank were brought in to help out.

According to crews, they had a hard time fighting the blaze because the structure was completely made out of wood.

The two dozen firefighters managed to contain the fire but couldn't save the building.

The Morley community is mourning the loss of it's meeting place.

"It's a huge loss. It's almost like a historical building. It's been here for quite some time. From one or our late chiefs who decided tp put the restaurant here," says Capt. Lionel Crow of the Nakoda Fire Department.

No one is believed to have been hurt and the investigation is continuing into what caused the fire.
