Office space, housing, more shops, and a brand new hotel are all in the works for a proposed expansion of Calgary’s largest mall.

The Calgary Planning Commission has now heard details of a proposed expansion at Chinook Centre by Cadillac Fairview.

The company says they’re trying to modernize the site and help the community grow.

They’re planning to develop the southeast corner of the shopping centre at 61 Ave. S.W. and Macleod Trail, adding a reported 2.3M square feet to Chinook Centre.

The enclosed mall is currently 1.7M square feet.

The mall’s last expansion, in 2010, cost almost $280M.

If the planning commission approves the plan, the proposal would then go to council, but that won’t be until about six months from now.

There are no details on how much this new expansion would cost or when construction is likely to start.
