With retailers lining up around the block to get a piece of the hot Calgary market, the city's biggest mall is looking for a way to accommodate the new businesses.

Cadillac Fairview, owner of the Chinook Centre is looking to expand.

Officials say they’ve given city planners an application for another one million square feet of space.

City officials will need to review the application before the company can plan anything but the company says it will be developing a mix of commercial, retail, and maybe even residential space.

Chinook recently announced the addition of luxury department store Nordstrom and discount big box store Target.

Nordstrom is expected to open in 2014.

Target is expected to open a series of stores across Canada next year.

A new wing of the mall opened last year at a cost of $277M.
