The fire department has issued a fire safety advisory for the city and is asking Calgarians to be cautious around dry grasses and shrubs in green spaces and parks.

The warm weather and dry conditions have increased the risk for wildfires and officials are reminding people to be careful with open flames outdoors, including barbeques and backyard fire pits, and with the disposal of smoking materials.

“We ask that everyone be vigilant when disposing of smoking materials and when using outdoor flames,” said Carol Henke, public information officer for Calgary Fire.

The fire safety advisory will remain in effect for the city until further notice and a number of bans and advisories are also in place in other parts of the province.
