Three people have been charged in connection with identity fraud and theft following the discovery of fraudulently purchased items in a Strathmore hotel room.
According to RCMP, officers were called to a hotel in Strathmore on Thursday after hotel staff were told by Aeroplan officials that a room had been booked using fraudulently obtained points.
RCMP members questioned the registered guest and the man said he would pay for the room and provided a driver’s licence. While the guest discussed payment with the hotel desk staff, an officer examined the licence and determined it was a forgery as the photo could be removed.
The man was arrested and officers searched his hotel room where they discovered a man and a woman and nearly $40,000 worth of ill-gotten merchandise and a small amount of methamphetamine.
As a result of the investigation, the following three people were arrested and charged:
- Andrew Bruggeman, 30, of Edmonton
- Stephani Fink, 25, of Calgary
- Dwayne Ireland, 36, of Calgary
The charges against the trio include:
- Fraud
- Identity theft
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Failing to comply with conditions of recognizance/probation
Bruggeman, Fink and Ireland are scheduled to appear in Gleichen provincial court on December 15, 2016.
