A Saturday morning rollover near High River claimed the lives of two young men from the High River area.

At approximately 8:10 a.m., EMS, RCMP and High River Fire responded to a residence near the intersection of 458 Ave E and 176 St E, near the Mazeppa gas plant, following reports of an overturned vehicle in the backyard of the home. The crews encountered a damaged Chrysler Sebring with frost on its windows. Inside, the bodies of two deceased males, believed to be in their late teens or early twenties, were located. It is not known when the rollover occurred.

The two men had been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

RCMP have identified the deceased as 19-year-old Carter Corrigan and 20-year-old Eli Eggli-Gosselin, the captain of the High River Flyers.

The High River Flyers Hockey Club issued the following statement on the team’s Facebook page:

"It is with great sadness that our hockey family mourns the devastating loss of our teammate & captain Eli Gosselin, who along with another Blackie-area boy were killed in a vehicle rollover early this morning. This weekend's games have been cancelled as our team processes this unbelievable tragedy."

In addition to Saturday night's game in Coaldale, the Flyers have cancelled Sunday afternoon's home game against Banff.

An investigation into the fatal collision is underway.
