Albertans who reside along the Bow River, Red Deer River, Little Red Deer River or North Saskatchewan River are asked to take precautionary measures against flood damage as this weekend’s forecast carries the potential for flooding.

On Friday afternoon, Alberta Emergency Alert issued a High Streamflow Advisory for streams and rivers in several river basins and a Flood Watch for the Little Red Deer River.

According to Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, given current precipitation forecasts, water levels may rise by as much as 150 cm (nearly 5’) over the next several days.

The advisories cover the following areas of the province:

  • From Edmonton to Nanton (including the City of Calgary)
  • From the B.C. border to the QEII Highway
