Calgary police have charged an employee at a local school with the sexual assault of a child.

On Wednesday, October 24, 2012, police received a complaint of inappropriate touching which was alleged to have happened the day before at a local school.

The alleged victim was a seven-year-old girl who was a student at the school.

The CPS Child Abuse Unit investigated and on Wednesday charged Chi Shing Tam, also known as Simon Tam, 62, of Calgary with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference with a child under 16 years old.

Tam was a relief cleaner at the school.

He has been released on an appearance notice and will appear in court on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
