The long-serving CEO of Calgary’s United Way is retiring from the position she has held since 2012.

Lucy Miller started in education serving most recently as Chief Superintendent for the Calgary Catholic School District. She also served on multiple boards dealing with social services.

Miller has been recognized with the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, the Women of Distinction Award, the Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership Award, the Papal Benemerenti Medal of Excellence, and was named one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People and one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women. 

The job will now be taken over by Karen Young, current V.P. of the organization. Miller came from the City of Calgary in 2014 where she was Director of Community and Neighbourhood Services.

The announcement was made at the United Way’s annual general meeting. Miller will officially leave her position at the end of the year.
