A pedestrian who was struck by a CP train in southwest Calgary on Wednesday morning has died from his injuries.

CP officials say a southbound train struck a pedestrian near the Southland CTrain Station at about 10:10 a.m.

The man in his 50s was reportedly found underneath the train by paramedics and was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in life threatening condition. He later died from his injuries.

CP says an initial investigation shows that the crew on the train sounded the horn and applied the emergency brakes but were unable to avoid the collision.

"Our thoughts are with the individual and their family," said CP in a statement issued to CTV News.

CP and Calgary police are investigating.
