A former Calgary police officer accused of molesting a young girl is set to appear before a judge on Monday.

Stephen Huggett, 59, was arrested and charged last August with one count each of invitation to sexual touching with a child under 14 years and sexual interference with a child under 14 years.

The complainant, who was just seven years old at the time of the offence, told police that it took place in 1992. It took over ten years for her to come forward.

The former Calgary police officer has a history of sexual abuse and spent nine months in jail in 2009 for possession of child pornography. He was also charged in January 2013 with sexual assault with a firearm, extortion, criminal harassment and possession of child pornography.

Huggett has also been a target of a campaign by residents in Calgary’s Willow Park neighbourhood.

Those residents want him to leave the home where he’s lived for years, which is across the street from a school.
