Members of corporate Calgary are attempting to break the world record for the world’s longest lemonade stand and are raising funds for “Dare to Care” at the same time.

Baytex Energy Corporation and BOS Solutions set up lemonade stands at Eau Claire on Thursday; one for each school that will benefit from the fundraiser.

The 350 connected stands sold lemonade from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. to raise funds for the charity and were all hand-painted by children in Calgary and Airdrie.

Lisa Dickson-Wells is the Founder of Dare to Care, a bully prevention program, and says they work with students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and staff and parents to help them stand up to bullying.

“We want people to be aware that bullying is not a joke. The word itself has been so overused that I think people are just kind of going, ah bullying whatever, and we’re trying to help people understand the difference between normal peer conflict and what actually bullying is and then give them the tools and the strategies collectively to do something about it,”said Dickson-Wells.

She says corporate Calgary really stepped up to the challenge to raise awareness and funds. “Because it is a tough world out there for funding and everybody is going after minimal funding dollars these days and we needed to be unique so we decided to do something very different but fun that really honoured children, which is lemonade stands.”

A surveyor was on hand to measure the attempt and will now submit the details to Guinness for consideration.

To break the Guinness World Record they will need to surpass 400 metres, or 1400 feet, of connected lemonade stands.
