A colourful and charismatic gridiron great, Jack Gotta passed away on Saturday following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 

Gotta was an All-Star receiver and defensive back during the 1950's and 1960's.  His CFL success continued on the sidelines, Gotta was a three time recipient of the CFL Coach of the Year award.

Jack's daughter Gia confirmed her father's death to CTV, stating Jack succumbed to the disease peacefully Saturday morning at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane

The Calgary Stampeders organization has expressed their sadness following the loss of Jack (Jocko) Gotta.

A small family service is scheduled and the Gotta’s are looking into arrangements for a public memorial to honour their patriarch who was loved by both his family and his extended family, the fans of the Calgary Stampeders.

In lieu of flowers, family members ask that a donation be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary

Jack Gotta was 83.
