Heavy Saturday snowfall did little to dissuade thousands of Calgarians from standing in line outside of the city’s measles vaccination drop-in clinics following Alberta Health Services declaration of a measles outbreak.
As of Friday, AHS has confirmed 23 confirmed cases of measles in Alberta this year, 9 of which were located in the Calgary Zone.
On Wednesday, the first day of the temporary measles immunization drop-in clinics, 1,700 residents of the Calgary Zone received their vaccinations and AHS officials believe Saturday’s numbers exceeded Wednesday’s.
The vaccines are available to:
- Infants (between 6 and 12 months)
- Children (12 months and older) who have not received their first dose of measles vaccine
- Children (4 years and older) who have not received their second dose of measles vaccine
- Individuals, born in 1970 or after, who have not received two doses of measles vaccine
