Calgary police have arrested and charged two local men in connection to the strangulation death of a 46-year-old man at a Southview home.

On the afternoon of Sunday, January 19, emergency crews responded to the 2000 block of 27 St. S.E. following reports an unconscious man had been located inside a home. The man, identified as Dennis Manual Barreira, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation into the death, police identified two possible suspects and determined the two men had been invited into the home. Homicide investigators believe the suspects entered the home with the intention of robbing Barreira of cash, drugs and personal items.

On Tuesday, May 6, police arrested and charged:

  • 21-year-old Kyle Earl Pate-Miller
  • 24-year-old Chad William Brian Mondoux

Pate-Miller and Mondoux face first-degree murder charges and are scheduled to appear in court later this month.

CPS Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm says it's believed Pate-Miller and the homicide victim knew each other, but the relationship was only weeks old. Narcotics may have been the primary target in the robbery,

"We're of the opinion the accused persons were aware there were drugs in the residence," said S/Sgt. Chisholm.
