Jack William Kramer has been found not guilty on a number of charges related to a 1995 home invasion on an acreage in southwest Calgary.

In the early hours of July 12, 1995, a man entered a home in the 1300 block of 69 St. S.W. A couple awoke to discover the masked man, armed with a knife, standing above them.

The suspect moved the husband to another room before returning and demanding cash of the wife. The man proceeded to sexually assault the woman and the couple’s 15-year-old daughter. The husband escaped and called 911 from a neighbouring home.

Police investigated the incident and identified a likely suspect. The suspect evaded charges for the better part of two decades.

Kramer, a resident of Whitecourt, Alberta, was arrested and charged in June 2014, nearly 19 years after the invasion, following advancements in DNA analysis technology.

On Friday, the 53-year-old was found not guilty on the following charges:

  • Sex assault with a weapon
  • Unlawful confinement
  • Threats to cause death
  • Robbery
  • Disguised

Kramer was found guilty of possession of a weapon and break-and-enter with intent. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13.
