Police seized a handgun and almost half a kilogram of cocaine from a vehicle and an apartment in Lethbridge and three people are now facing charges.

ALERT executed a search warrant on the property along Berkeley Place West on Tuesday and believe the apartment was being used to make crack cocaine.

Police seized the following items during the execution of a search warrant:

  • 474 grams of cocaine
  • 198 grams of buffing agent
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia
  • .32 calibre handgun and ammunition

“The presence of the firearm within the residence exhibits the lengths criminals will go to protect their drugs from other criminals by using violence or the threat of violence. These weapons also present an increased risk to the public and law enforcement investigating these crimes,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Walper in a release.

Justin Reid, 27, of Lethbridge, is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with readily accessible ammunition
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000

Arthur Cranston, 58, and Guy Cranston, 56, both of Medicine Hat are charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of crime

Police say the drugs have a street value of about $47,000.
