A brazen daylight shooting in the beltline has many concerned about elevated gang activity in Calgary.

Calgary police confirm that this shooting was a gang related and the victim was an associate of known gang member Roger Chin, who was laid to rest last weekend.

Gun fire rang out around 2:00 P.M. Monday on 15th Ave. and 6th Street S.W.

When police arrived they found a man in his twenties in the driver's seat of a van suffering from gunshot wounds.

Calgary EMS treated the man at the scene and then transported him to hospital where he is in stable condition following surgery.

Investigators took video footage of the grey minivan where the victim was found and towed the vehicle away for further forensic examination.

Police believe two main rival gangs are at the heart of the recent violence.

"We currently have a number of gangs in the city, there are two that are extremely active in regards to public acts of violence," said CPS Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta, " the public acts of violence put all Calgarians at risk, bullets don't discriminate and our gang members have a complete disregard for members of the community."

Police are looking for witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident and are requesting anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-262-TIPS (8477).
