A brazen shooting in downtown Calgary has left a young man fighting for his life.

Police responded to shots fired around 2:00 P.M. Monday in the 700 block of 15th Ave S.W.

When they arrived they found a man slumped over and bleeding in a grey minivan.

Witnesses report hearing up to 3 shots and seeing a couple of vehicles take off down the alley.

The man in the van was unarmed and alone at the time of the shooting.

District One police are handling the investigation and are still talking to witnesses to try and determine exactly what happened.

"So far we have heard conflicting reports whether there were vehicles involved or people on foot," said CPS Inspector Keith Pollock, "we are trying to get to the bottom of that."

Police are looking at surveillance tapes from nearby buildings as part of their investigation.
