The Calgary Humane Society reached a significant milestone on Saturday, as the non-profit agency celebrated its 90th birthday.

As part of the festivities, the society hosted a barbeque complete with cake.

The first thirty adults through the door on Saturday had the opportunity to adopt any cat over the age of seven months for $90, a reduction from the regular fee of $145.

The Calgary Humane Society is one of the oldest non-profit agencies in the city.  Originally, the group helped more than just animals.

“Ellen Foster started it to help woman and children in Calgary,” says Christy Thompson of the Calgary Humane Society.  “It was to help vulnerable people and that included animals.”
