The federal government wants to crack down on gangs with new legislation. The government wants to change the law so anyone involved in a gang murder is automatically charged with first degree murder, even if it wasn't planned.

Claude Regimbald knows how gangs can destroy a family. His 23-year-old son Eric was stabbed and his body thrown from a moving vehicle in Calgary Chinatown. Regimbald says his son was involved with gangs.

The proposed federal legislation creates a new offense for drive-by-shootings which means anyone convicted would spend years behind bards.

Regimbald applauds the Harper government for its action but wonder why it took so long.

He says "I never could understand how they can classify a murder, one, two, manslaughter, a murder is a murder".

Regimbald is still waiting for word of an arrest in his son's murder. He believes that day is coming and says under this law, those who took Eric's life will have a long time to think about why.
