A young man stabbed outside a nightclub last Friday is still on life support in hospital with family by his side and police still out looking for a suspect.

Shawn Harding has been in a medically induced coma after being stabbed twice in an apparent altercation outside the Roadhouse nightclub last week.

His family says he is still on life support after the attack. "He's getting a bit stronger, and starting to be able to breathe on his own," says his brother Anthony.

Shawn and his friend Joseph Doucette were at the Roadhouse when they had an altercation inside the bar but left soon after.

Doucette says they were leaving the bar after having an argument with another man who they never met. They don't know if he had any connection with the suspect. "We came out of the bar and there was a little altercation and we walked away from it. About half a block up, a guy came up from behind this fence and said 'hey' and hit me in the back of the head with something - a knife or belt."

He was the lucky one, getting away with a few stitches on the back of his head.

Shawn, however, was stabbed multiple times and suffered a lacerated liver as a result.

His family says he paid a hefty price for coming to the aid of a friend.

"Shawn came to help him out and stuff and he didn't know what it was, maybe just a punch in the head, and then Shawn started to get stab wounds," Anthony said.

Shawn's family is now looking to the public for help in locating the suspect and to help him in his recovery while he cares for his 20 month old son.

His brother Douglas says Shawn is a single father and if he is unable to work for a period of time, it will be a problem for him.

A trust fund has been set up for his recovery at the Beacon Hill CIBC where people may inquire for information to donate.

Meanwhile, police continue to search for the suspect and they say that someone must know something, considering how busy the club was on the night the attack happened.

Police are looking for an Asian male, about 5'7" with a slim build and spiky, black hair.

He was wearing a light coloured hoodie at the time of the attack and left three or four other people.

If anyone has information regarding the attack, they're asked to call police or Crimestoppers.
