A joint investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) and the Calgary Police Service has resulted in sexual assault, luring, and child pornography charges against a 37-year-old Calgary man and investigators believe there may be other victims who have yet to come forward.
Satinderjit Mangat, who used the online alias ‘Sam Pat’, is alleged to have contacted a 14-year-old girl in August of 2013 through social media. The online contact led to a sexual relationship.
In December, the girl’s parents notified police after discovering sexually explicit chats between their daughter and Mangat.
On January 15, Mangat was arrested and charged with:
- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Assault with a person under the age of 16
- Invitation to sexual touching
- Luring a child under the age of 16
- Luring a child under the age of 18
- Making child pornography
- Possession of child pornography
- Accessing child pornography
Mangat has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court of February 18.
Police believe Mangat may have targeted other minors. Anyone who was victimized by Mangat or has information about Mangat or his Facebook pseudonym, is asked to contact Cst. Heather Bangle at 403-428-4908 or Crime Stoppers.
