The Calgary Board of Education has voted in favour of a plan to rebuild Elbow Park School, which was severely damaged in June’s flooding.

Trustees approved the bid during a meeting on Tuesday night, saying that cost estimates they received from their insurance companies showed it would cost more to restore the school than just rebuild it.

The new school will be built in the same location in southwest Calgary and is expected to open its doors in September 2016.

It isn’t known how much the new school would cost, but the province is expected to kick in some funds for the new building.

There is no date set for the demolition of the old structure.
