Hot on the heels of the Elliot Lake mall parkade collapse, the City of Calgary is taking all precautions.

The City has issued an immediate Order to Cease Occupancy for the main floor businesses and parkade levels 1, 2 and 3 of Rocky Mountain Court due to an unsafe building structure.

The structure was deemed unsafe when the integrity of the level 2 parkade floor was compromised during renovations. Occupants on the main floor and parkade levels 1, 2 and 3 were directed to vacate these floors within hours as a precautionary measure to protect public safety.

No safety issues have been identified for levels 4 and above, only businesses on the main floor and parkade levels 1, 2, and 3.

“Our focus is on maintaining public safety, keeping the residents in their homes and getting the businesses back into operation,” says Cliff de Jong, Acting manager of Building Regulations, “we want safety concerns addressed as soon as possible, without compromising public safety in anyway. That’s our first concern.”

Occupants of the building were notified Wednesday, July 11 of this Order to Cease Occupancy. There will be no access to the Rocky Mountain Court parkade until it is deemed safe to do so. The adjacent building, Rocky Mountain Plaza is not affected by this Order.

Rocky Mountain Plaza is located at 615 Macleod Tr. S.E.
