In the past few weeks there have been several deaths on the CTrain tracks in the city.

Some of the fatalities are accidents and some are believed to be suicides.

Whatever the cause, the fatalities leave a lot of people traumatized especially the drivers of the trains.

The latest fatality happened at about 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Chinook LRT Station.

Police say a 23-year-old man ended up on the tracks directly in front of the train and the operator could not stop in time.

Mike Mahar is president of the Amalgamated Transit Union and has had his share of close calls on the job.

Mahar says drivers and operators who experience events like this are offered critical incident stress management immediately and colleagues who have experienced similar incidents are available to offer their support.

"Biggest thing you hear is that fear. It can happen anytime," said Mahar.

Last Friday a 51-year-old cyclist was hit along the 36th street line. The crash, which claimed the life of the man on the bike, was ruled accidental.

On the September long weekend two serious incidents along the tracks left one man dead and another in hospital.

Officials with Calgary Transit say they are always looking for ways to improve safety but this latest string of fatalities has some employees on edge.

According to Calgary Transit, there have been 58 fatalities along the CTrain lines since August 2010.
