A man in his 60s is dead following a Friday afternoon crash near the intersection of Stafford Drive and 3 Avenue North.

According to the Lethbridge Police Service, at approximately 2:30 p.m. a flatbed truck was travelling westbound on 3 Ave N. The driver observed a stop sign and proceeded to make a right-hand turn into the northbound lanes of Stafford Drive. A cyclist, a man in his 60s, was travelling southbound on the sidewalk on the east side of 3 Ave and struck the driver’s side of the flatbed truck while attempting to cross the intersection. The cyclist became entangled under the truck and was dragged a short distance.

A paramedic crew responded to the scene and the cyclist was transported by ambulance to the Chinook Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

The LPS continue to investigate the incident but officials do not anticipate charges.

A section of the northbound lanes of Stafford Drive were closed for several hours following the fatal crash.
