Calgary's former mayor may have quit city politics.

But he won't soon be forgotten by some local organizations.

Dave Bronconnier has donated his remaining campaign funds to several service groups.

A total of six organizations will be sharing $275,000, including the Campus Calgary programs offered through The City of Calgary, the Calgary Public Library Foundation, the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre, the West Side Recreation Centre, as well as the Philip Quaque Boys & Girls School in Cape Coast, Ghana, Africa.

"This is something that I've always had in mind for the day when I left politics to go back to private life," says Bronconnier.

"Donors to my campaigns generously provided funding to help move Calgary forward, and taking these surplus dollars and putting them toward worthy groups supporting our community is very much in keeping with that spirit."

Donations have been made over the past two weeks.

The total Bronconnier Campaign surplus stood at $311,000. In October 2010, an event was hosted to recognize the contributions of over 600 campaign volunteers, with all the remaining campaign proceeds dedicated for donations.
