Police are investigating a recent case of animal cruelty which holds similarities to two animal deaths in January.

On Friday, Cameron Edmonds discovered the backyard of his Whitehorn home had been entered and his dog Radar was gone. Edmonds immediately knew something was wrong as the gate to the yard, which is stiff and difficult to move, was left open.

Radar’s owner scoured the streets and alleyways of the neighbourhood before making an unsettling discovery. Radar was laying in a snow bank in an alley with a belt fastened around his muzzle and his paws tied with nylon rope.

“I knelt down and I took the belt off his mouth,” said Edmonds. “I was undoing the rope and I was trying to get him to stand and walk with me.”

Radar was unable to walk and his owner had to carry him to his vehicle before rushing the dog to a vet clinic.

The prognosis for Radar is promising and veterinarians expect him to fully recover, but Edmonds remains shocked by the fact anyone can treat an animal with such disdain.

“In my opinion, someone that would do this isn’t even a person. That’s something that a human should not ever…” said Edmonds before choking up with emotion.

While police do not believe Radar’s attacker is responsible for recent high profile animal cruelty deaths in Willow Park, the attacks are similar.

Police continue to investigate the attack on Radar but have few leads.

For Edmonds and his fiancé, they’re now hesitant to let their two dogs outside in the yard and are planning to install a surveillance monitoring system.
