Calgary fire department investigators are fairly certain they know what caused the massive blaze at IKO Industries last week that had crews calling in a third alarm.
Firfighters were called out to a large fire at the plant in the 1600 block of 42 Ave. S.E. on Tuesday, March 11 at about 11:00 a.m.
The blaze shut down several nearby businesses and fire crews remained at the scene for a few days to monitor hot spots.
Officials now say a contracting crew was dismantling a piece of equipment, called a Saturator, with a cutting torch and believe something ignited.
They say they have determined, with a fair degree of certainty, that the fire was accidental but the official cause has yet to be released.
