Influenza immunizations are now available to all Albertans.  The flu shot clinics in Calgary opened Monday, October 21, 2013.

Vaccinations are free of charge to all Albertans six months of age and older.

Children are being given the vaccine through a nasal spray; however adults are being offered flu shots, unless they are afraid of needles.

In Alberta flu immunization is optional, even for health care workers.

In B.C. health care workers are watching to see how the province’s policy of mandatory flu immunization plays out.

It’s up to an arbitrator to decide whether a B.C. government policy mandating a choice of either flu shots or masks for all health care workers is valid.

Unions have been vocal in their opposition to the shots-or-masks plan.
