A retired Calgary police officer has been sentenced for possession of child pornography.
Stephen Huggett pleaded guilty in June.
He denied he was a pedophile and claimed he collected and viewed the material in a misguided effort to protect the children depicted in the material.
Tuesday, Huggett was sentenced to nine months in jail and two years probation.
The defence had asked for a sentence of no longer than 90 days in jail. Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of nine months followed by probation
Huggett was a Calgary police officer for 25 years before retiring in 2007.
