Fuel tanker and pickup collide on Highway 2 near Okotoks, injuring 2
A collision and fuel spill shut down southbound lanes of Highway 2 south of Calgary for several hours on Thursday afternoon and sent two people to hospital.
A man in his 50s was airlifted from the scene north of Okotoks to the Foothills hospital in critical condition and a second patient with non-life-threatening injuries was taken by ground ambulance.
The crash, between a pickup truck and a fuel tanker, happened just before 2 p.m., shutting down southbound lanes and forcing traffic to be rerouted.
RCMP are investigating the crash, which left both the pickup and the tanker heavily damaged.
The fuel appears to have spilled along the highway's grassy median, where crews worked to clean it up for hours.
